What is Sew South? 
It's a weekend full of crafting, sewing, socializing and fun! It's It's a place to relax and make something fun. It's friendships new and old. It's connecting over crafts, fabric and sewing. Come spend a weekend stitching, laughing, and creating. Take time for yourself,  connect with others, feel inspired.

There have been 5 Sew South Retreats since 2012 and I'm excited about the upcoming Sew South Small Group Girls' Weekends! 


When is Sew South? There are three Sew South weekends coming up.

Summer Retreat: August 12-14, 2016
Fall Retreat: September 30 - October 2, 2016
Spring Retreat: March 31 - April 2, 2017


Times: Friday 9:30 AM - Sunday 11:00 AM
Cost$420 for one weekend. 

When do tickets go on sale? Tickets for several retreats are typically sold at one time. To find out when tickets will go on sale and keep up with all Sew South info, please sign up for the newsletter

Are tickets refundable?  If your name is pulled to attend, you'll receive an email letting you know. You'll have a chance to purchase one or possibly two tickets depending on how many spots are still available. 
Tickets are non refundable. 
Tickets are transferrable up to 30 days prior to the event. If you need to sell your ticket, I will contact the next person on the wait list for you in the event that you are not able attend. 
If the spot cannot be resold and the date is past 30 days prior, the ticket is nonrefundable.


Payment for your ticket is $420 and you'll be able to pay via PayPal/credit card or cashier's check.

What's Included: 2 catered lunches  (from Zoe's Kitchen and Panera Bread) most workshop supplies, beverages, yummy snacks and treats, swag, open sewing time. *You will need to bring your own sewing machine. :)

What's not included? The hotel and dinners. Also, you need to bring your own sewing machine. 

Dinner: Is not included in the cost but my hope is that everyone will go to dinner together. We eat at local restaurants such as at PF Changs and Harpers Grill.

Where is Sew South?The Hampton Inn Phillips Place.
Sew South is held at the lovely Hampton Inn Phillips Place.  It's a lovely hotel in an upscale shopping area with restaurants just steps away. This is not a run-of-the-mill Hampton! The rooms are lovely and a great breakfast is included. The Sew South group room rate is $135 a night. There's a shuttle to take you wherever you would like to go in the area although the hotel is nestled in a great shopping neighborhood next door to a PF Changs, Dean and Deluca, Paper Source and a movie theater. There is even a Polished nail salon and a Whole Foods right around the back of the hotel. It's a beautiful location in the city of Charlotte!

Sew South Weekend Plans: 
I've got some great projects planned for the workshop time in the mornings and there will be open sewing time in the afternoon and evening too. We'll sew, we'll do some crafty things, we'll hang out, we'll eat - it's the perfect balance!

The workshops will be taught by me (Jennifer Mathis of Ellison Lane) and will be fun projects that will encompass sewing, a bit of crafting and of course cute fabric! There will be some fun group games, swaps and secret sisters too!

What makes Sew South different? Sew South Retreat is all about choosing joy. It’s about the people and the experience. It’s a weekend for sewing, crafting, connecting and creating. It’s inspiring, exciting, relaxing and FUN! The small size ensures that we all connect and engage on a personal level.


Are machines provided? Sewing Machines are not provided. You will need to bring your own machine. If flying, I suggest making arrangements to carry on your machine in a travel bag.

Can I rent a machine? Unfortunately machines are not available to rent.

Who should attend? 
You! If you are a modern quilter or sewist looking for a fun, engaging, inspiring sewing retreat in the South, Sew South is for you. 

What if I don't have a blog? Come anyway! You'll meet lots of people, bloggers and sewists that share a passion for sewing. If you are passionate about modern sewing then you belong at Sew South!


Are classes/workshops included? Yes! The workshops are included in the ticket price of the retreat. Most of your supplies are included however you may need to bring a few things and if so, will receive a short supply list prior to the retreat. 


What kind of sewing experience do I need to attend? Sew South is designed for everyone from confident beginners to seasoned sewists. The make and take workshops are diverse in skill level with enough instruction and time to complete the projects. There will be plenty of open sewing time too so bring your own works-in-progress with you. You should have some prior sewing experience and be comfortable working your machine.


Help! I need a roommate! Sharing a hotel room is a great option. Not only do you keep costs down with a roommate, it's fun. If you are coming to Sew South alone and would like to room with someone, that may be an option. 


How did Sew South come to be? It started as a dream and a wish to connect, sew and have fun with other passionate, like-minded fun folks and that dream became Sew South! Sew South is presented by me,  Jennifer Mathis of Ellison Lane.
